Tartan Pitch

In Professor Giberson’s writing workshop, we have all been asked to write one article for publication in Gordon College’s student newspaper, the Tartan. My article will be on Professor Giberson’s book signing this upcoming Tuesday. This was my first introduction to print-writing and I was unsure about how to proceed. However, Professor Giberson guided me through the “pitch” process. So, this I what I came up with:

Hello,

I’d like to pitch a story about a major Gordon event that will be held next week. This event is an on-campus book signing held by Dr. Karl Giberson to showcase his fascinating new book, “The Wonder of the Universe: Hints of God in Our Fine-Tuned World”. This article would be complimentary to  Giberson’s discourse at the recent Crum Lecture and provide a tangible context for his involvement at Gordon. This event will surely draw considerable attention due to the book’s prominent exposure in Books & Culture, as well as Giberson’s intimate collaboration with Gordon students in his Science and Religion writing workshop.
Thank you for your consideration!

And with that, it was sent into cyber-space. Shortly after, I received a return email encouraging my to record the details of the event and to form a story on it. Once the event has happened, I’ll be writing the article and will submit it to the editors of the Tartan shortly thereafter.

In the Beginning.

Ah, the beginning of a new blog.

I’ve frequented this place so many times before that it’s now uncomfortably comfortable. I’ve written blog posts on photography, music, and philosophy, yet none have quenched my thirst for legitimate authorship. Yet, behold- a new opportunity! While my other blogs have proven dissatisfying for my authorial ambitions, I’m confident that this attempt will prevail. Although this is true on several fronts, I’m most excited for the “meta” nature of this blog. Writing about writing? Brilliant, novel, necessary.

Now then, in regard to my research for the Writing Workshop, I’ve had a most productive week. Initially, I set about to read and review Enns’ The Evolution of Adam. Once I had completed the review of this literature, I felt compelled to put my own pen to paper. In doing so, I re-vamped an Ethical Philosophy essay that I had written a few months ago. In my revision, I strengthened several arguments while improving the readability of the piece. As a result, I have a new confidence in this essay and will soon submit it to an undergraduate conference.

All in all, this was a most successful week! I’m content with my progress and looking forward to the rest of the semester.
